Data: Ad-Supported Streaming Booms In Q2 (Advanced-Television)
Kantar, the marketing data and analytics company, has released its latest Entertainment on Demand (EoD) data and analysis on the global video streaming landscape. Kantar’s EoD study uncovers the following behaviours within the global VoD market between April to June 2024: Ad-supported streaming saw significant growth in Q2 2024, with AVoD increasing by 10 per cent quarter-on-quarter and FAST growing by 6 per cent.
Viaplay Rolls Out Ad Supported Tier (Broadband TV News)
Viaplay has introduced a new HVOD (Hybrid Video on Demand) tier for its Swedish customers. The streaming service is charging a monthly SEK 99 (€8.50) for the tier, though is currently promoting a SEK 49 offer for the first two months. It hopes the combination of subscription and advertising will provide customers with greater flexibility.

Disney+ reality game show “The Zone: Survival Mission” is back for its third season with a new cast lineup and its members facing the threats of a financial crisis and AI. "The Zone: Survival Mission" began in 2022 with the concept of its cast members surviving virtual disaster scenarios. The first season saw the cast surviving large-scale apocalyptic scenarios threatening humanity, while the second season scaled down the situations, which were based on disasters that could happen in daily life.
NZ: Champions League On DAZN (Advanced-Television)
DAZN, the sports streaming platform, will become the exclusive rights holder for UEFA’s club competitions in New Zealand for the upcoming three-year broadcast cycle, 2024/25 – 2026/27 inclusive. Bringing Kiwi sports fans the best of European football, DAZN will broadcast games from the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Europa Conference.
Amazon Starts Selling Sky Showtime Through Prime Video Channels (The Desk)
Starting this week, Sky Showtime can be purchased by Prime Video users in the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden, with prices comparable to what the service costs on its own in each country. The addition of the four countries comes about a month after Prime Video in Spain began offering Sky Showtime as part of a test run.
MBC Hoping Song Stealer Format Can Repeat The Masked Singer’s Global Success (C21)
The format sees cover artists aiming to ‘steal’ songs from their original performers, with both artists performing the song in front of a studio audience. The audience then votes on which version they prefer. If the cover artist receives more than 50% of the votes, they get the chance to release their cover of the song online.

The disposal of Poland’s TVN is one of the options under consideration by Warner Bros Discovery executives anxious to avoid a break-up of the media company. The group was only formed in 2022 out of Discovery and WarnerMedia in a bid to fend off growing competition from streaming services such as Netflix and Discovery. However, a share price that has subsequently fallen 70% has led executives to question whether big is actually better.

Australia: Extreme E Broadcast Deal With SBS (Advanced-Television)
Extreme E, the electric off-road racing series, has announced a new broadcast partnership with Australian public broadcaster, SBS. This collaboration will bring Extreme E’s races to a wide Australian audience through both free-to-air and digital platforms. Extreme E X Prix in 2024 will be available to Australian viewers on SBS, one of the country’s primary national broadcasters.
