Hollywood reset its streaming ambitions in 2022 with a focus on profitability instead of pure subscriber growth. And macroeconomic clouds have affected advertising trends in the media and entertainment space. Now, PwC’s annual closely-watched “Global Entertainment & Media Outlook” is providing latest data and forecasts for these and other sectors.
Sony, Zee Merger Unravelling? (Advanced-Television)
Local reports out of India say that Sony’s board of directors are increasingly unhappy with the planned merger between their Indian assets and those of Zee Entertainment.
Three Thai Series Added to HBO Go Production Slate (Variety)
Warner Bros. Discovery has announced three new Thai HBO Asia Originals: action-fantasy blockbuster “Khun Pan 3”; fun-filled cooking series “MarkKim + Chef” and reality series “Deane’s Dynasty.” The shows will be available exclusively to HBO and HBO GO in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Samsung TV Plus Eyeing FAST Originals, But ‘It’s Still Early Days’ (Television Business International)
Samsung TV Plus is eyeing a move into original commissioning for its FAST channels, its country lead for France, Antoine Chotard, has said here at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival. When asked about the possibility while speaking on a FAST panel this weekend, Chotard said “soon” but “not yet.”
Vodafone TV Relaunches In Ukraine (Digital TV Europe)
Vodafone Ukraine has revealed it has relaunched its TV service in the region. Its offering includes more than 220 popular and premium channels, more than 10,000 movies and series, with world premieres of MIRAMAX, MGM, Sony, as well as, Disney.
‘Scam 2003: The Telgi Story’: Sequel Series To SonyLIV’s Indian Crime Series ‘Scam 1992’ Gets Release Date (Deadline)
Scam 1992 is one of India’s highest-profile drama series of the streaming era and its sequel now has a release date. SonyLIV will debut Scam 2003: The Telgi Story on September 2 in India, nearly three years after Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story launched in 2020.
Viaplay Retains ‘Intense’ Originals Schedule, Despite Financial Woes, Reveals Scripted Boss (Television Business International)
Viaplay Group has retained its scripted originals target, despite its recent financial woes, the Nordic firm’s SVP of scripted content, Camilla Rydbacken, has told TBI here at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival. “Last year, we had slightly above 70 originals, and that is the goal for now as well, but I’m not sure exactly how many will be launched,” revealed Rydbacken.
