Global Streaming Viewing Time Was Up 14% In Q2 2022 (Senal News)
Asia saw the largest year over year increase at 90%, while Latin America saw the second biggest increase at 70%, followed by Oceania at 26% and Africa at 22%. Meanwhile, North America, which has seen single-digit growth for the past year, continued that trend with a modest 5% increase in streaming viewing hours. Europe was up slightly compared to last quarter at 20%.
Sky Cuts Queen Elizabeth II-Related Jokes From ‘Last Week Tonight With John Oliver’ in U.K. (The Hollywood Reporter)
Among other things, Oliver made fun of tributes to the late queen from such companies as Domino’s Pizza and the likes of cartoon character Crazy Frog. “Obviously, we have to start with the U.K., which is clearly still reeling from the shocking death of a 96-year-old woman from natural causes,” the host said. “It is a big moment [of] the week, and for some reason, absolutely everyone felt they had to wade in.”
Premier League Football's Return Faces A Problem With A Lack Of TV Trucks ( Daily Mail)
The return of Premier League football could be jeopardised by a shortage of TV trucks caused by the 24/7 coverage being given to Her Majesty the Queen's funeral.
Sportsmail has learned that the Premier League's main rights holder Sky Sports are running out of the outside broadcast trucks required to deliver live coverage as many are being used by their sister channel, Sky News.
Sky Sports are due to televise eight live matches across football next weekend, beginning with Aston Villa v Southampton in the Premier League on Friday evening followed by Tottenham v Leicester the next day, and Brentford v Arsenal and Chelsea v Liverpool on Sunday.
Middle East And North Africa SVOD Market Report 2022-2027 - Netflix Will Continue To Lead The Market (Yahoo Finance)
There will be 21.52 million paying SVOD subscriptions [TV episodes and movies only] across 13 Arabic countries by 2027, up from 9.49 million in 2021.
Simon Murray, the Principal Analyst, said: "Netflix will continue to lead the market, although Disney+ has provided a strong challenge since June. We assume that Netflix and Disney+ will add hybrid ad-supported tiers in a pan-Arabic platform from 2024."
Despite its fast growth, Disney+ will remain behind StarzPlay (3.47 million subscribers by 2027) and Shahid VIP (3.77 million subscribers by 2027).
BFI Cancels First Day of London Film Festival’s Pre-Festival Program Following Clash With Queen’s Funeral (Variety)
“The State Funeral of Her Majesty The Queen will take place on Monday 19 September and has been declared a national bank holiday,” the organization said in an email on Tuesday (Sept. 13). “In light of this news, we will now be commencing our pre-Festival programme from 20 September. Those films that were scheduled to take place on the 19 September will be accommodated later in the Festival.”
Jean-Luc Godard, Enfant Terrible of Modern French Cinema, Dies at 91 (The Hollywood Reporter)
A former film critic who wrote for the legendary Cahiers du Cinéma during its heyday of the 1950s, Godard emerged onto the scene in 1960 with his seminal debut feature, Breathless, which won the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival.
The Paris-set crime caper, which starred Jean Seberg and Jean-Paul Belmondo, forever changed the course of movies and heralded the arrival of cinematic modernism. Using jump cuts, nods to the camera and other meta-fictional devices, Breathless constantly interrupted and commented on the story as it was happening.
Western Europe Will Maintain Its Growth For The Next Five Years (Senal News)
Western Europe will have 238 million SVOD subscriptions by 2027, up from 165 million by end-2021, according to Digital TV Research’s latest data, which also reveals that six US-based platforms will account for 81% of all SVOD subscriptions by that year.
In detail, Netflix will remain the largest, but will only add 3 million from 2021 for a total of 62 million subscribers. As a result, Netflix’s market share will fall from 36% in 2021 to 26% by 2027. Meanwhile, Disney+ will have 46 million subscribers by 2027 – 20 million more than 2021. Newcomer Paramount+/SkyShowtime will add 11 million subscribers, and HBO Max will bring in an extra 5 million.
ProSiebenSat.1 Acquires 100% of Shares in Streaming Platform Joyn (Variety)
German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 Group is to acquire the outstanding 50% of the shares in German streaming service Joyn from Warner Bros. Discovery.
The joint venture was established with Discovery in 2017, and has been operating under the name Joyn since 2019. Joyn has a free basic service, financed by advertising, as well as a premium subscription service.
Shahid Original ‘The Devil’s Promise’ From MBC Studios Starts Streaming This Week (Arab News)
It was written by veteran British TV screenwriter Tony Jordan (“EastEnders,” “Life on Mars,” Hustle”) and directed by Emmy Award-winning and BAFTA-nominated British filmmaker Colin Teague (“Doctor Who,” “Being Human”). The pair worked together last year on the Saudi thriller series “Rashash.”
The stunts were choreographed by Kaloyan Vodenicharov who worked on films such as “Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation,” “No Time to Die,” “World War Z” and “Troy.”

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno said that entertainment content has great potential to make Indonesia better known to the world.
