Sorry for the unexpected newsletter. As you know, I don’t normally send out breaking news. But it appears the WGA Strike is on and if you are wondering where negotiations stood when talks broke off Monday night, here is the update the WGA sent out to members.
As I wrote about in today’s newsletter, the WGA effort to set minimum staff sizes for mini-rooms is a non-starter so far for the studios. Although they also weren’t willing to discuss some other issues, such as the use of AI in developing scripts.
According to the union, WGA proposals would gain writers approximately $429 million per year; AMPTP’s offer is approximately $86 million per year, 48% of which is from the minimums increase.
