Too Much TV: Even On The Weekend, I'm On The TV Beat
But mostly I was on the creepy painting beat
I don’t take a lot of vacations. Actually, I almost never take time off. Sadly, the random days I have managed to get away in recent months have been for health reasons.
But in the last several years, my wife, son and I have taken a couple of days off to hit the 100 Mile Yard Sale, which straddles both sides of the Mississippi River in lower Minnesota and Wisconsin.
As I mentioned in Thursday’s newsletter, I planned to take off Friday to hit the sales and that’s what I did. I just returned home and it was the first time that we managed to make it through two days of sales without hitting some massive rain storm.
I had some readers ask me about the event, so I decided to share some photos from the experience. I bought a lot of baked goods and homemade jellies, my wife found enough puzzles to fill a huge cardboard box and my son scored a long box of random hockey cards from the 1990s and some cool rocks.
It was a great time with the family and just the mental palate cleanser I needed. The regular newsletter will return on Monday.
I love dogs as much as anyone. But this painting is a bit unsettling.
Although not as unsettling as these two sisters.
If I become a wealthy media magnate, I am definitely buying this lakeside home in downtown Winona.
This sign is literally in the middle of nowhere. So I’m not sure where 1st Street is located.
This vintage strip mall movie theater is still in business.
And in the middle of a small town, we spotted an anti-Trump protest.
Physical media was a popular item. Including a surprisingly large number of copies of the complete series run of The O.C.
I did pick up some cool stuff.
And speaking of pop culture, we drove past the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in Pepin, Wisconsin. BTW, nearby Lake Pepin is reportedly the home of Pepie, Minnesota’s answer to the Loch Ness Monster.
Lunch on Saturday was at Big Bear Pizzeria in Lake City, Minnesota, which offers some amazing pizzas, including some of the best gluten-free ones I’ve ever seen.
Nothing says “Let’s stop here for a beer” like a place named “Poot’s Tavern”
And this is why we came….see you on Monday.
I would love this vast yard sale! I also greatly enjoy those ghost children-type paintings (and demon dolls) at flea markets.
Looks fun! Any “May the forth” collectibles?
