Too Much TV: Your TV Talking Points For Monday, November 7th, 2022
Your next company Zoom meeting could include some comfy seats & tubs of buttered popcorn.
Here's everything you need to know about the world of television for Monday, November 7th, 2022.
Today's newsletter is list-heavy, given the various pieces of news announced today. I'm not sure how Election Day will impact things tomorrow.
AMC WILL CREATE ZOOM ROOMS IN SOME OF ITS THEATERS
So what are movie theatres supposed to do with all of those movie theaters that they are having trouble filling? Especially in those large multiplexes, which have more screens that movies to play in them.
AMC has announced that will be converting some smaller screens into Zoom rooms, which could be rented out by businesses for remote conferences and meetings:
At launch, companies can book a three-hour block of time at several theaters simultaneously, in order to hold virtual events across multiple markets. AMC and Zoom will provide the equipment and will offer food and beverage services, a concierge and a movie viewing for an extra cost.
“AMC has an abundance of attractive theatres at centrally located venues in city after city after city, each with ample seating capacity, especially so during daytime hours on weekdays when most meetings take place,” said AMC CEO Adam Aron. “Our state-of-the-art sight and sound technology is widely renowned, and has made gathering in movie theatres one of the most popular out-of-home entertainment options in the United States. Zoom Rooms at AMC broadens our scope, as we now can participate as well in the multi-billion market for corporate and other meetings.”
I'm not sure how many companies will take advantage of this, but it's a great use for the unused spaces. And to be honest, the major theater chains should be exploring other ways in which they repurpose their spaces and monetize them as many different ways as possible.
I don't see any indication that the theatrical business is going to return in the ways necessary to make a 12, 15 or 18-screen complex profitable in the long run.
