Too Much TV: Your TV Talking Points For Monday, July 22nd, 2019
And right now, when I say "too much TV," I really mean "too many photo galleries"
Here's everything you need to know about the world of television for Monday, July 22nd, 2019. I'm writing this from the Twin Cities, where AllYourScreens HQ is running on coffee....lots of coffee.
CBS GOES DARK ON DIRECTV, AT&T U-VERSE DUE TO RETRANSMISSION DISPUTE
If you're a subscriber to any of the AT&T-owned cable or satellite systems, you lost access to your local CBS station overnight. The outage is due to a contract dispute between AT&T and CBS over what are called "retransmission rights." Basically, by law CBS is required to offer a company like AT&T the opportunity to carry its channels. But the two sides have to agree to mutually acceptable terms. They haven't, so CBS pulled it signal Sunday night. Part of the dispute is over money, but according to some reports AT&T is also looking for the rights to sell the streaming service CBS All-Access directly to its customers. The news only gets worse in the coming weeks for AT&T, as if faces several additional big retransmission negotiations.

WHAT'S NEW ON TV TONIGHT:
Here's a rundown of the modest number of new television shows and specials premiering Monday evening:
1)Â POV: On Her Shoulders (PBS)
After surviving the 2014 genocide of the Yazidis in Northern Iraq and escaping sexual slavery at the hands of ISIS, 23-year-old Nadia Murad gave a testimony before the U.N. Security Council that was heard around the world. Nadia suddenly became the face of the Yazidis – a historically persecuted and voiceless religious minority. Despite longing for a normal life away from the spotlight, Nadia takes on the role of an activist in hopes of halting the ongoing genocide and bringing ISIS commanders to justice. Repeatedly telling her harrowing story to journalists, politicians, and diplomats, this once ordinary girl is suddenly thrust into the alien world of advocacy on a global stage.
2)Â Serial Killer: Devil Unchained (Investigation Discovery)
On November 3, 2016, a young woman is found alive on Todd Kohlhepp’s property after being held captive for two months in a shipping container. Following her rescue, Kala Brown reveals to Spartanburg County Sheriff’s investigators that her captor, former real estate broker Todd Kohlhepp, is responsible for more crimes than local police ever knew possible. Kohlhepp would plead guilty to seven murders, but his reign of terror didn’t end there. Filmmaker and investigative journalist Maria Awes sets out on a dark journey to uncover the truth behind his crimes – the ones we know about and additional ones he claims he committed. With the help of former FBI profiler John Douglas and Kohlhepp’s own biographer, Gary Garrett, Awes goes down a twisted path, talking to Kohlhepp’s family, as well as his victims and their families, uncovering early warning signs that might have helped stop a killer in his tracks.
3)Â The Family Chantel Series Premiere (TLC)
Fan-favorites Pedro and Chantel and their lively in-laws will be the focal point of this spinoff series from the "90-Day Fiance" franchise. Ever since Chantel first introduced Pedro to her family under the false pretense of him coming to America on a student visa, the drama that followed has kept fans obsessed. From their beginnings on "90-Day Fiance" season four through "90-Day Fiance: Happily Ever After" Pedro and Chantel have weathered major marital ups and downs involving everything from feisty family members to their own trust issues. Viewers will follow this unique modern family as they try to move past their differences and come together as an extended family, but as Chantel’s parents Karen and Thomas try to protect their brood, will they push their children too far? The family members featured in the upcoming series include Chantel’s parents Karen and Thomas and siblings River and Winter, as well as Pedro’s mother Lidia and sister Nicole.
4)Â Worst Bakers In America Season Premiere (Food)
Eight of the worst bakers in the country have been drafted into an intense baking boot camp. Expert chefs, Lorraine Pascale and Jason Smith, have just five weeks to mentor these hopeless recruits, while putting them through a series of fast-paced baking challenges. Lorraine and Jason have their work cut out for them as they try to transform these kitchen disasters into baking masters, but in the end, one recruit will win the grand prize of $25,000.
