The GGs have never been exactly prestigious compared to the organizations that award prizes in the same fields as theirs- the management of AMPAS and the Television Academies have conducted themselves with greater dignity and their membership numbers are both larger and better reflections of the industries they represent. But "foreign press" is such a nebulous category that it can cover virtually any type of journalism, ethical or otherwise, in Hollywood,, and the HFPA will never escape that.
