Yeah everyone's acting like Licht was the final boss, when (to your point) he was clearly the useful idiot turned scapegoat. Clearly Licht didn't originate the strategy of CNN being a "reputational asset" vs a "profit/growth asset" as he put to Alberta. That came from the guy above him.
It's interesting that few reporters are looking at CNN with the lens of Zaslav's autocratic leadership at Discovery. He has a pretty well documented history of top-down micro-managing and even in Alberta's piece he is looming in the background at the end. That's not going anywhere any time soon. If anything I'd expect the CNN exodus to continue.
Yeah, for all of the mistakes Licht made, he was just following what Zaslav wanted to do. And that's not going to change under a new boss.
Zaslav has a reputation for thinking he's always the smartest guy in the room. Which makes things tough when he gets a bad idea stuck in his head.

Thanks for the analysis. Robert Reich has a similar take from the left and hits the same notes.
And thanks for the big laugh about Fox's next lawsuit
Hey, I don't think think I've ever been compared to Robert Reich, so thanks for that!
